Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer

Causes of Lung cancer

Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. In America, it is said that smoking is not only injurious to health; but it also kills. Tobacco and nicotine are mainly responsible for negatively affecting our lungs. Genetic and hereditary factors can also be responsible, although it may not be a cause of lung cancer.

Are we careful about consuming a balanced diet? Because, presence of antioxidants in our food, i.e. the amount of antioxidant one has in his/her body is also responsible for lung cancer.

Pollution is also highly responsible for the dreaded disease. People dealing with heavy chemicals are also prone to lung cancer.

Symptoms of lung cancer

There are various symptoms of this type of cancer. Regular chest pain and weight loss should be immediately brought to the notice of the doctor. Coughing blood may be a symptom of lung cancer but in 95 per cent cases the patient suffers from bronchitis. However, at times, there may be no such symptoms at all.

Treatment of lung cancer

Operation is one of the main modes of treatments for this type of cancer. However, operation in the very first step can be avoided because lung cancer can also be cured by chemotherapy. Along with chemotherapy, one can also go for radiotherapy. Radiotherapy should be done soon after the chemotherapy to stop the cancer from coming back and spreading into the brain. People with early small cell cancer can have radiotherapy to kill the cancer cells at an early stage. The cancer detecting CT scan has not yet been properly introduced in India, but there are also many other tests like biopsy to detect the cancer.

Prevention
of lung cancer

Smoking is not only injurious to health but it also kills. Chewable tobaccos like khaini lead to oral cancer. Besides this, one should have a balanced diet full of green vegetables and fruits, which contains antioxidants. Routine check-up and screening at proper times is very important. One should consult the concerned doctor to keep their health in good condition.
